History of the Detroit Tigers logo:

The first logo design was very strange to say the least. It was without a letter or city name and it was simply a hand drawn red tiger. After 1902 the design changed to the block letter D and went through 11 changes all the way up to 1928. All versions of the logo were simply different fonts and styles of the letter D, all of them were in a dark blue colour and ranged from an old English style D to a simple block letter D.

The 1927 logo design had its biggest change. Replacing the letter D was a tiger face in orange and had a blue outline. The tiger had white eyes and teeth with black whiskers, however this logo only lasted a single year.

After 1928 the design went back to the letter D and the style lasted all the way to 1957. It changed 4 times and went back and forth between an old English style letter D with orange outlines, to a simple block letter D in a darker shade of blue.

In 1957 it was a new tiger logo. The tiger was orange, white and black and is seen from a front on view with the tiger having an open mouth. The next two designs were extremely similar with one major change and that was having a thick black and then blue circle around the tiger with the word Detroit on top and the word Tigers on the bottom.

In 1994 the franchise incorporated both the orange tigers and the old English style letter D. The logo was an orange tiger coming through the old English style letter D in an aggressive and intimidating way and was a great logo design that lasted 11 years.

After that, in 2006 the franchise dropped the orange tiger altogether in the logo and went back to a simple design. The old English style letter D was back in a darker shade of blue. From 2016 to present the logo is pretty much the same as the previous logo. It is an old English style D but is a different style than the previous one and is in a dark navy blue colour.
